Born in Taiwan, Kathryn Alverson lived in eight American states and one Canadian province, before splitting her adult life between New York and Los Angeles. She is now settled in rural Vermont with her husband, daughter, two dogs, and a family of resident woodchucks.

Alverson studied Theatre at Temple University, before moving to New York City’s East Village. There she joined a community of musicians, artists, and academics, to whom each day was a creative act. Eventually she found her way to Los Angeles where she dove into photography as her primary mode of artistic expression.

But New York wasn’t out of her system, so she convinced her new record producer husband to move back. She then furthered her studies at The New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design where she focused on creating and exploring photographic images through philosophy and art historical discourse.

From rock bands, to preschool students, and the environment around her, Alverson seeks that gleaming moment in time which transcends each image to speak to our shared life experience.
